On Sunday morning, The Palm Beach Post reported on a pair of hit-and-run accidents, one of which occurred at 6:00 a.m., with the second taking place at 8:20 a.m. The first one happened on the southbound site of the Interstate at Glades Road, while the second occurred on the northbound side near Vero Beach. It is an interesting coincidence that the interval of time that elapsed between the two accidents is nearly identical to the time it takes to drive between the two locations, a fact that raises the possibility that the same driver caused both crashes. There has not, however, been any official indication that this is the case.
Hit-and-run accidents present a major problem for the accident victims. Under Florida state law, all drivers are required to stay at the scene of a car crash in order to:
- Render any aid that may be necessary for an injured driver or passenger
- Exchange contact information with the other driver
- Exchange insurance information so that each party can file a claim if necessary
- Answer any questions to assist in filling out a police accident report
When a driver breaks the law by leaving the scene of an accident, the other party is left hanging and cannot file a claim against that driver’s liability insurance policy.

No-Fault Claims For Hit-And-Run Accidents In Boca Raton
Fortunately, Florida is a no-fault state. What does this mean to you? It means that drivers in Boca Raton and statewide are required by law to carry personal injury protection (PIP) coverage. No-fault/PIP coverage pays for medical bills and lost wages regardless of who is to blame for an accident. Consequently, the parties who were injured in Sunday morning’s accidents should be able to file claims against their PIP policies, which under state law must cover at least $10,000 for bodily injury. Whether or not the insurance companies will actually pay on the claims is another question entirely, as John Willis can testify from his experience in insurance litigation involving PIP/no-fault claims.
